A Hunk of a Monk ... ey

Our little man is now six months old. He has made some major milestones this week. He can now sit for about a minute unassisted and has cut his first tooth (the second is almost through). We went to the doctor for his check up and he weighed in at 17 pounds and 4 ounces and 26.25 inches long. He is in the 50th percentile for each. He has a cold and an ear infection so we are now on antibiotics. The doctor suggested that since Nathan's skin is so sensitive (he gets skin irritations so easily), to use Tide free and clear detergent and Aveeno soap and lotion. I told Nathan that he is already high maintenance. He is going to end up with as many products as his Uncle Nic!
We are still trying to get him to eat baby food, but he is not interested at all (unless it is ice cream - thanks to Mimi). When I try to give him a bite, he closes his mouth tight. If I do manage to get a bite in, he gags and pushes his tongue out until most of the food is out. I gave him a few days rest from it thinking that with healing the ear infection and maybe maturing a little would help him, but nope. Although, I think he does not like eating from a spoon because he would suck it off my finger. It's amazing how they have a mind of their own.

Moose

I try not to compare Chelsea and Nathan, but it is hard not to when she is all I have had before him. He has been smaller than her except for at birth weight, but I am proud to say that we are finally at 17 pounds. He is becoming our little moose, hence the shirt. Way to grow Tater Tot!

Prima Ballerina

Chelsea started ballet in November. We have a routine where Mimi meets Mark and I there after school with Nathan, Zoe (my neice, 18mos old), and Chelsea. I have to sit in the class because Chelsea has bad seperation anxiety. I am the only mom that has to do this but I don't mind because I get to hear everything that goes on. Mark holds Nathan wile Mimi watches Zoe. Zoe seems to have taken an interest in ballet too. She watches with body parts glued to the glass window. Chelsea debuted a new tutu today and looked very sassy.

This is a plea. Thought I should explain it.

Blankies

When Chelsea was born we swaddled her so she would sleep better. As she became a rolly polly infant we had to use two blankets so she wouldn't escape. A straight jacket maybe have been a better solution! Then, as she grew older, these blankies were used as a reminder that it was sleep time, so we put them in her crib. Now Chelsea and her blankies are inseperable. And she has to have both of them at the same time. She even has an extra set at Mimi's house. I finally tore her away from them for a little while to wash them and you see she was not too patient waiting for them to dry. She sure was happy when they were clean.

Princess in Training

Chelsea attended our neighbor's birthday party. I think it should have been called princess boot camp. We got to practice riding properly in a carriage drawn by horses, apply makeup at a vanity mirror, and ride off into the sunset on our horse, Charlie. Chelsea and I had so much fun. It was a great mother - daughter bonding experience. Happy Birthday to Julia.

Sad, but not really

I had a sad day yesterday. I am realizing that my babies are getting too big. Nathan started teething. He has two bumps on his bottom gums. And Chelsea is getting wise beyond her years. I told her I was sad about this and she consoled me by saying, "It's okay Mommy. I fromise (promise). I will make it better." All while stroking my hair. I love having conversations with her now. You never know what she will say. This is the last day my babies will ever be so small. Tomorrow they will be a little bigger. I try to take it all in so I never forget these precious moments.

Cereal, Part I and Part II

Part I: Nathan had his first taste of cereal (he has had other foods thanks to Mimi). He liked it rather well even though most was outside his mouth rather than in.

Part II: Chelsea decided she needed cereal too. So she had to have a bib and baby spoon to eat her cereal.
